Strategies
C-SET (Claim/Set-up/Evidence/Tie-in) - We will use C-SET this year to improve our responses to text-based questions.
Magnet Summary- Summarizing skills improve both reading comprehension and writing abilities.
PALS (Peer Assisted Learning Solutions) - Peer reading strategy designed to improve fluency, predicting, and summarizing.
Vocabulary- Students will study Greek and Latin word roots and affixes to build vocabulary. (More practice available at Vocabulary.com)
Unit 1 - Tolerance
Focus Texts - Hitler, The Book Thief, and Tuskegee Airmen
RL1 - I can cite textual evidence that strongly support my inferences and analysis of the text.
RL2 - I can analyze the development of a story's theme
RL2 - I can analyze the relationship of the theme to the characters, setting, and plot of a text.
Information Comprehension
RI1 - I can cite textual information that support my inferences and analysis of the text.
RI2 - I can determine two or more central ideas and analyze their development over the course of a text, including how supporting ideas are used.

Focus Texts - Hitler, The Book Thief, and Tuskegee Airmen
Supplemental texts - This unit will also feature several short stories and poems to supplement the novels mentioned above.
